I have received texts from a kid who sounded about 12 (he also called me when I told him I was his 'cousin Alex') not once, but three seperate times. I was proud that I refrained from sending a string of expletives to him the third time.

Each generation has its own identity. That it rejects prior values is part of the process. We should expect it to shock. The important thing about the process is its efficacy. Language and culture evolve. We have no metrics, so I will have to assume it is valid and working.

Would he give up his seat on a subway for you? Or would you feel less virile if he offered?

That's way too funny!

Aside from the alarming fact that you and I are both 60, I like this kid. Once he found out he was dealing with a (ahem) mature individual, he had the grace to apologize in a mature way. Most kids would have simply slinked away.

I agree. He has manners. I've been wondering all day what the "5 5" means.
