What really makes you mad?

I write this blog primarily for my own amusement and for its cathartic qualities, but I’d like to try something a little different today. Please leave a comment and tell everyone what really makes you angry. That’s the only direction; it could be political, social, interpersonal, or anything else. Let it fly.

Cruelty. Indifference to suffering. Injustice. My personal limitations and failings to deal with them.

I am well fed and comfortable in a world structured to protect me at the expense of other people and animals, but it could easily be the other way around. Yet I don't protest.

Robert Scott Blank said to me about a year ago the the word "amazing" is the most over used word in the english language and I have to the conclusion that he was amazingly correct.

I’ll add my own. I can’t abide people who feel it is their lot in life to be served by, and to take advantage of, those they deem to be beneath them. These are the people who were born on 3rd base who think they’ve hit a triple. They very often combine the traits of arrogance and ignorance -- if not down-right stupidity. They invented subprime mortgages and Jell-O pudding-pops.

Living in Washington, I get exposed to more than my fair share of arrogance from all hues of the political rainbow. Differing opinions are one thing, but the sneering contempt each side demonstrates for the other is really infuriating. Being this close to where the sausage gets made can make you a little cynical.

A pattern is emerging.

Look, I made it to first base on a balk. I got to second on a wild pitch and third on a sacrifice fly. Should I contemplate stealing home?

That said, this blog being more to a political bent, how do we rate the past few administrations and the 4 potential players on arrogance? You do realize, if we had a tuna fish sandwich for president instead of the current one, we wouldn't be bleeding in Iraq.

They've all got egos of course -- thy're politicians -- but one of the reasons I'm finding this election so interesting is that they all seem to have reasonable control over those egos, and I don't think there is a cowboy in the bunch.

After 24 years in the wilderness (with a brief, almost catastrophic, respite with Carter) the Clinton administration entered the white house with an arrogance unheard of until the Bush guys replaced them 8 years later. The Clinton's got slapped pretty good in 1994 and fought a rear gaurd action for the rest of their time in office. As a result, we thrived pretty well.

The Bushies operated virtually unchecked for 6 years and have driven the country into a ditch that will be very difficult to get out of.

The cautionary tale here is that unchecked ego and its associated arrogance and entitlement make for disastrous policies. All these guys have enormous egos and if allowed unfettered access to power will produce disastrous results.
