Road trip

I’m headed out on a 17 day road trip tomorrow morning and am unlikely to have anything new to say until I get back.

I’m flying to Memphis where I plan to visit the Stax Museum of American Soul Music (Soulsville), then heading down to Clarksdale, Mississippi for the Juke Joint Blues Festival. I plan to visit Holly Springs (long-time home of R.L. Burnside) and Oxford while in Mississippi, and before heading down to New Orleans.

There will be a dinner at Emeril Lagasse’s in NOLA and at least one day of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

After that I will work my way through Mobile, Birmingham and Atlanta, on the way to Myrtle Beach to take in the rich cultural attractions of that megalopolis.
God willing, I shall return to New York on May 4th and will give you a full report then – if it warrants it.

So, while he's gone.............

That panther on the prowl tattoo looks more like a tabby cat high on catnip.

Dennis,
Pensacola is only an hour's drive away from Mobile and has some of the prettiest beaches in the world. Give me a holler if you'd like a personal tour and some adult beverages...

Let me know if you stop in Charleston on your way to Myrtle Beach - the original Redneck Riviera (not that there's anything wrong with that!). I shall not tell my family I know anyone who's been there . . . OH, a B. trip. Have fun. xo

M.B. makes Ocean City, MD look like Martha's Vineyard. This time of year the "restaurants" are mostly populated by middle aged "guys in hats" who have just hacked up one of the 100 golf courses in the area.

Nice shot Woody. What would Ranger ink look like?

Woody said...

Ranger ink would probably resemble the Yellowstone National Park rangers immortalized in the Yogi Bear cartoons. Would Pirate ink be a pirate from Somalia?

I doubt that level of diversity has arrived in Rocky River quite yet. Given our proficiency at tennis and golf, our Pirate would probably better resemble Johnny Depp in Pirates of the Carribean. Not very tough but cuts quite a figure.

Fenway -- Folly Beach has its fair share of tatoos and motorcycles. Doesn't hold a candle to MB but it's still pretty dignified place.

Bird: would it surprise you to learn I was NEVER allowed on Folly during high school? And I was in every juke joint in the area - but never on Folly!

Fenway -- Before they built the causeway, it was a round about way to get there. Maybe it was a safety issue. Although nothing surprises me about SC. It's changed now, but you used to not be able to buy a drink on Sunday except at a "Gentleman's Club" which were allowed to stay open. Go figure. Ravenel must have owned Thee Doll House in N. Myrtle.

Woody, careful, that cat bites. DB is not the only person sporting that kitty. As we Blk Panthers say,"Those who know dont say, those who say ,dont know."
Bird, go to the mirror boy. You are one of the old men wearing a hat. Happy BD to all April kids.

Turns out the fire in Myrtle Beach had nothing to do with the lighting of DB's birthday cake. He wasnt in the area.

Look guys, I get the whole BO event. You guys changed the world.

We now have a Pesident who is a black man and I am all for it.

Last week the POSTUS decided to release CIA documents concerning interogating techniques to the world.

My question is WHY?

What event will this achieve?

Damn, if I had been paying attention to your blog, I would have driven up to NOLA to see you! Or coaxed you to come to Dallas.

I am contemplating spending the $500 to fly up and go to the lake for the Fourth of July, however. We'll see what the finances look like.
