The Iranian lunatic

Would anyone care to stand up for the U.N.? Or for that matter, can anyone identify something it does that couldn’t be done as well, or better, by individual countries? As a New Yorker, it seems to me that the U.N.’s principle reason for being is to provide free parking for its third-world members.

Yesterday’s performance by Iran’s Ahmadinejad was a complete disgrace. To have given him a platform, under the roof of an institution chartered to promote world peace, so he could spew his lies and hatred was beyond appalling. In case you missed it, the man who leads the country with no homosexuals once again denied the holocaust and said Israel “has no future.” And if that wasn’t enough they let the mass-murderer Kadafi have the soapbox next.

So today, Bebe Netanyahu got up there and called Ahmadinejad the liar he is, and called the U.N. the gutless enablers of extremist Muslims that they are. If the Israelis end up taking out the Iranian nuclear manufacturing sites it will be because the U.N. not only did nothing to stop these stone-age lunatics from getting the bomb, but actually gave them credibility on the world stage.
All the U.N. is doing is taking up a perfectly good location for condos with East River views.

Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi actually had a great idea - move the UN headquarters to Libya. That's something I can stand behind.

It's only a matter of time before we wake up one morning and hear about surgical air strikes carried out by Israel against Iran's nuke sites. That action alone will lead to instability and the next revolution within the borders of Iran. We will then see un-censored news footage of Ahmadinejad's head on a pike, paraded down Main Street, Tehran.

Agree. UN is a Joke.MOVE Israel. If they are Gods' chosen, why would they be put or want to stay in a land of Bad soil, bad water, bad neighbors. Then all of the Muslim extremeists could feel free to abuse woman, compulsively wash themselves, face Mecca 6 times a day and squeal like the pigs that they are.

I dont know how but I'd like to see the UN as the governing body of the world. Individual nations running the show is just what all the fighting, all through history is about. That & who's God runs things. It's the simplest idea that no government gets, sitting together & talking things out. Scientist, artists, athletes & most guys on the street get it. People in Iceland dont give a rats behind where you go to church.
The Holocost,World Wars,Slavery & atom bombs on Japan were all horrible events. Now they are history. Move on.
Until The Federation of Planets is established we should do all world business through the U N.
Layoff Muammar. He's the coolest dressed world leader & he hung with The Stones.

As one critic wrote, if the price of oil stays under $2 per gallon, you wouldn't have to learn how to pronounce Ahmadinejad [I'm a dinner jacket]

Failed energy policy continue to hound our nation. Our infrastructure and personal energy patterns have been designed around cheap energy. We could have been leading the global energy revolution but we act as if the world will eventually accommodate us. This is the death knell of aging empires.

The land of milk and honey hath no oil. However, they do play hardball with stones. Blood letting is their past time. Like the far right in America, people who have been shut out of the system, or just feel that way, either through their own poor choices, or that of their leaders, are acting out. Moderate people are no match for bad guys with guns.

Palestine/Israel/The Levant is really just a pebble in the shoes of the world. It is where the unstoppable force meets the unmovable object. If Obama further reduces nuclear weapons worldwide thru the UN, it will prove itself worthy.

This free parking stuff pisses me off. Moreover, did the well dressed Gad-fly have to pay hotel tax on his tent?

Thirty years ago a guy in town had a very big sign in his front yard that said "Get US out of the UN". A very forward thinker indeed.

Let Iran get the bomb. I am sure they understand the consequences.

Here's the kind of thing that grinds my stones. Abdul Baget Ali Al-Megrahi kills 270 airlines passengers & gets a sympathy release. Susan Atkins kills a goodlooking ,but lousy pregnant actress & days in prison. Is there no justice?

There is a large open tract of land next to the UN by the East River that should have some new condos on it.
The UN was the second experiment of the 20th century meant to ensure world peace. They both failed because we are all in favor of world peace, except when people don't do what we want.

Gaga, I hope you are kidding about the UN. If not, I hope you are part of a dying culture. You frighten me.

I am part of a dying bred. My bred still believes that: governments should be the voice of the people, not their leaders; that the peoples of the world want to live in peace, not drain their funds & resources making weapons; that the purpose of the collective is to care for each other;& that that collective should provide health & well being to everyone, everywhere.
United Nations,World Counsel call it what you'd like. The world has to sit down at the same table before fear kills us all.

Thanks, Mr. Blank for a good post. I couldn't agree more with the thought of your final sentence. But you left out a very important part of this story. Consider:

1. One, only one, nation’s leader, Netanyahu from a country that most of the UN General Assembly reviles and doesn’t even recognize, comes to the well to denounce, in plain Churchillian terms, the evil insanity that animates Ajad.

2. Meanwhile, our President, whom I have previously described here as the Brittany Spears of American politics, does not disappoint. Did he get Brittany to write that inane, sophomoric drivel?

Whatever happened to all the lefties who rode around in cars with bumper stickers that said “If you want peace, work for justice?” Where is the justice for those who have died this year under the Ajad jackboot, or worse, who remain alive but imprisoned and tortured in his prisons. Where is the demand for justice from that entire room full of “diplomats" and “world leaders” who sat on their hands (as they have done since the beginning) while this jerk rants on as if he were Hitler reborn? As for Obama, it is quite clear that he thinks justice lies in pursuing CIA operatives, or pardoning Black Panther thugs who threaten voters with clubs at polling places (see that at YouTube.)

Like you, I hope for change. But this isn't it. This is just goofy - and a world historical tragedy. The world needs an American leader, not a callow, shallow, historically ignorant empty suit.

To those who think the UN can work:

What’s wrong with you?
