Polish Missiles

Can someone please tell me why we are putting missiles in Poland? Isn't this needlessly provocative? Wouldn't we consider it an unfriendly gesture if the Russians decided to put their missiles in Mexico? And why does Georgia need to be in NATO? It's a hell of a long way from the Atlantic, and just another provacation. If you are going to poke the bear with a sharp stick you'd better be prepared to have him take a swipe at you if he gets the chance. Don't we have enough problems without stirring up extras?

Missiles in Poland? To deter the provocative intentions of newly-crowned, imperial czar Vlad Putin...who had better think twice if he thinks the Polish cavalry is the only opposition to his planned
aggression crossing the Vistula toward a Russian reclamation of Prussia (excuse me, East Germany)...oh wait, the DDR no longer exists...hmmm, why? BECAUSE Reagan defeated the godless Soviet horde and ended the Cold War. Maybe a nice MIRV'd nuke up Putin's backside while he's running
like a scared girl toward China will wake up the has-been Russian
empire???
If Russia put missiles in Mexico, maybe the U.S. would finally do
something about the illegals crossing our border AND kicking some Russki ass in the process? Would be fun to watch our stealth bombers taking out the numerous rat holes from which the illegals multiply...oh, and then maybe some GM jobs would return to Ohio?
Georgia in NATO? See above...do you really want the "independent"
Russian satellites of Ossetia and Abkhazia threatening more of our
natural gas and oil flowing from the rich Central Asian heartland to the port of Turkish Ceyhan? Hello, these pipelines go through Georgia and, oh yes, the Russians already bombed one! But, you wouldn't see that on CNN.
Man has been baiting bears for centuries and largely for amusement. I say we sharpen the stick and get ready for a little bear shishkabob party ala Georgia (that would be "shashlik" to the freedom loving Georgian, who will finally be able to throw off centuries of Russian/Soviet/Russian oppression thanks to Uncle Sam).
Finally, if cry baby Putin likes getting his ass kicked in northern
Europe, wait till he sees what's waiting for him to the south!

It's clear that the Bush and Clinton administrations, among others, have no sense of history whatever. Russia may be the most paranoid state on the planet and not without reason. They get invaded by some crackpot megalamaniac every century or so. Putting this missle defense shield in Poland or putting Georgia in NATO will only serve to feed that paranoia. Clinton and Bush squandered a chance to bring Russia fully into the family of civilised nations and now we (or in this case Georgia because, John McCain's claim notwithstanding, we're decidedly not all Georgians) suffer the consequences.

Oh and Reagan won the cold war? Really? I suppose Truman didn't have anything to do with it or Nixon or even the hapless Jimmy Carter. Or, God forbid, General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Reagan did not defeat the godless Soviet horde nor did he end the Cold War. It was a process despite his pretty please "Mr. President take down this wall".

Signed,
nonetheless a scared girl

Japanese proverb: "The only cure for stupidity is death."

It does appear the grave diggers will be quite busy. Lots of stupidity to go around.

Let Europe worry about Russia, Georgia and the rest of that neighborhood. There are 500 million people in the EU – why should we continue to bare the burden. NATO has outlived its usefulness, at least to America. What’s wrong with a little selective isolationism?
………………..
Lots of people contributed to the Cold war victory, but the ball was stuck on the 20 yard line for more than 20 years and RR punched it over the goal line. I know it’s hard for you liberals to accept, but people can be wrong about one thing, but very right about some others.

I'm not convinced Ronald Reagan had that much to do with the implosion of the USSR. The system was being crushed under its own weight. Does anyone else feel that conservatives were "born on third, but felt like they hit a triple", to use your great analogy?

Let's face it. He touted small government but all he had to show for it was hypocrisy.

Conservatives/republicans are, for the most part, members of the lucky sperm club and they vote their wallets. I don't have the high regard most have for RR not because he was a repub. but because I feel as though he presided over a country that looked bright and shiny but was rotten beneath.

Did not our invasion of Iraq signal Russia that they can do what they damn wll please.

Most of the world asked us not to invade and we did what we wanted to do halfway around the world. Explain why Russia doesn't have the same "right" that we have.
