If there is any justice in the world, Michigan State will beat UNC tonight at Ford Field in Detroit. It’s not just that the people of Detroit could use a victory, but also that a defeat will feel like another nail being pounded into the communal coffin if the sunbelt ballers get to put on their special tee shirts and ball caps under falling blue and white confetti.It’s been a rough year in Motown. MGM is even trying to sell their Detroit casino. When you can’t make money gambling you know times are tough.
I have nothing against the North Carolinians. They have a nice team. And if this were the University of Michigan playing, say, Tehran Tech, I’d be out recruiting my own personal berka-clad cheer leading squad to root the Persians on to victory.
But these are the Sparties. The sons of the Midwest working class. Magic’s team. Go State!

Have you gone mad? It is a basketball game, nothing more, nothing less. They play the game, one team wins and one team loses. End of story. Congrats to MSU if they win the big game. But if UNC wins, the dogwoods and azaleas will bloom and the sky, even in Michigan, will eventually turn Carolina Blue.
Woody, this is important stuff. Not to mention State has the best coach in college basketball. Go Spartie! (Although a win for the Heels would deservedly put Tyler Hansborough in the North Carolina basketball pantheon.)

D, dont confuse a Tarheel with Carolinian. There is not one starter from NC. You need to go 7 or 8 deep to find one, unlike MSU where everyone is a 2-3 hour drive from East Lansing. I thought the Dukies were the elite, private school in NC.
And please refrain from calling them the Sparties, its just too cute.

Yeah, birdman, but they had an unfair advantage. Those kids stayed in school for 4 years.They will probably graduate. Schools like OSU recruit All Americans who go to school for a year, then get a job, pay taxes, etc.
UNC doesn't recruit all-Americans? Check out their incoming freshman class. They have the best freshman class in the country. Hansbrough is pretty unusual for Carolina - great college player, marginal pro. Carolina guys tend to do pretty well at the next level.
Screw the boys in baby blue. My Terps were the only school in the country to beat both UNC and MSU. Well, we lost to an MSU also, Morgan State. I am from the ABC school of basketball Anybody But Carolina.
I only watch roundball & baseball during special events. Short pants sissy crap. BTW was any Spartan NOT from Ohio? When does football start?
