The calm before the storm

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they’ve finished nailing the plywood over the doors and windows, stocked the basement with canned goods and bottled water, and now there is nothing to do but sit and wait until the hurricane reaches shore?

The Dow opened down almost 500 points this morning. Yesterday Alan Greenspan repudiated 40 years of economic beliefs and all but predicted Depression II. “It ain’t over ‘til isn’t over,” but it seems likely Obama will win, which for him could end up being the ultimate example of being careful what you wish for because you just might get it. I’m already feeling sorry for the guy.

Where is all the money going to come from to fix everything? Health care, social security, Medicare, infrastructure, the wars, the existing national debt – the list is endless. And one thing I know is that raising the capital gains tax and getting rid of the Bush tax cuts for the better off among us isn’t even going to put a dent in this list. And all the above is before the promised Obama middle class tax cuts and relief for mortgage defaulters.

I could sure use some good news. At the moment I’d settle for a Buckeye win over Penn State tomorrow night – that’ll get me out of bed and back in the office Monday, al least.

The sickest thing is that "Joe the Plummer" is talking about a book deal.

EXCUSE ME! Early on I called McCain 272.

And I spit on the floor after your call "it looks as though it's over". One never tempts the evil eye.

It is going to turn again and we will be watching President Palin.

Fenway - You're just still upset that the Red Sox couldn't close the deal on the Rays last week. However, one should never utter the words "it's over" or "it's my election to lose". Both of these statements are dead bang killers in politics.

I'm not taking everything up to the 2nd floor yet in anticipation of the "financial Tsunami" that Greenspan spoke of yesterday. What's with this guy? For 20 years he's overseen the Fed and claims surprise at something he was given ample warning about.

I have no illusions about receiving social security or any of the other promised "entitlements" as I rapidly approach retirement. I never did. I think we're looking at 10% unemployment and its accompanying problems for the next year at least. What's more, that 10%s number doesn't include the illegal immigrants which make up the bulk labor and construction workforce. Those people are really screwed.

Welcome to the winter of our discontent.

Time to ratchet down and consider working on health, food and contemplating the world. Consider buying a sunny piece of ground with good soil and drainage. Grow food and raise bees. Cultivate your endorphins by exercise. Eating low on the food chain is good for you and the environment.

Be prepared for a rise in crime.

Bullsh*t is gonna walk.

I cant deal with anyone as or more depressed than I am. I'm thinking about holding up a liquor store using a gun, resisting arrest & not posting bail. My punishment, free room & board for the winter. Just like school,I hope I get a good roomate.

Denny,

You need a hug.

Don't you see what is going on here?

People are selling and the Gordon Gekko's of the world are buying.

Greenspan might be questioning himself but Warren Buffet et al are buying. I would if I was them.

Where else in the world would you want your money but the USA?

Russia?
China?
Brazil?

I think not.

The media LOVES to tell us how BAD it is.

If that is so why is Erie,PA doing so well.

The dollar is up big!

To answer a question let's make an investment in infrastucture.

It helps us, people work and pay taxes.

If you have read this far, read "The Fair Tax."

Joe Pa has been dead for years. They have a contest each week to see who can sit in the booth with the Joe Pa mask on. This week it was a woman from Scranton who was a Hillar delegate. Obama got her to switch with the promise she could be Joe Pa for a day.
