I deserve a major tax cut

I deserve a major tax cut for watching another one of those faux debates last night; another infomercial masquerading as a “town hall” meeting. The rules were set by the candidates, designed to protect them from themselves, and then they couldn’t stick with them.

What they should do is put the two of them on a stage with two chairs hooked up to electric wires (nothing lethal) leading to hand controls operated by a live studio audience of uncommitted voters who would crank up the amps when they hear an answer they don’t like. Booing, catcalls, and loud laughing would be encouraged.

In all seriousness I found both candidate’s understanding and sense of urgency about economic issues very much wanting. I hope they are just too timid to speak up and not actually that shallow.

That said, Senator Obama looks increasingly Presidential, while Senator McCain looks increasingly desperate. At least he didn’t go rhetorically postal last night, which might have ended the whole party.
---------------------------------------
The Sarah Palin poll closed last night (look to the right). The turn out was modest but the results were pretty conclusive.

The format demeans the word "debate." Perhaps the presidential candidates would have gone for looser rules. These guys can argue the facts. Sarah Palin certainly would not have stepped into the ring with Joe Biden without the safety net of the format. She cannot deal with facts, perhaps not even the law. But she sure as hell can argue. The GOP is the drowning man grasping at straws. If you believe this morning's NY Times editiorial, you would believe this to be akin to the trial scene in "To Kill a Mockingbird."

These guys are getting on our nerves. McCainers dislike Obama mentioning GWB and I ratchet up when McCain says "my friends."

Why did I walk away feeling that McCain only had to offer, 'trust me,' and looked older than his age while Obama appeared to be the smartest kid in his class?

Off topic: BTW Woody, I think I could actually fit into the clothes I wore in Hiram. No gut. I've traded any hope of suviving on a respirator for faster running times in races. Like our financial institutions, I am into short term gains. On the bike, or hoof, you couldn't tell my age but for a grey beard and some wrinkles on my face.

We all do the best we can. I am doing this for all of us who can't, till I can't either.

These things have never been debates regardless of the "format". Having three of them, I suspect contributes more to low turnout than anything. We just get sick of them after a while and turn to football or Halloween to get our jollies.

No presidental candidate in their right mind would ever speak the truth in a campaign about what needs to be done in regards to the economy right now. Whether its marines on the wire at Gitmo, salesman, or presidential candidates, the American people "can't handle the truth". Anybody that says we're heading for hard times is going to get hammered for being a defeatist and hating America and will enjoy the same fate as Fritz Mondale.

These debates are about playing four corners basketball. Don't make a mistake and get off the court without injury. The problem for McCain is that this is a losing strategy if you're behind.

McCain seems to be one of those guys that needs to demonize his opponents in order to compete against them. He really doesn't like Obama and it showed. Not very presidential at all.

I am impressed that the Obama campaign had a website up www.thatone08.com before midnight. You can buy tee shirts with "That One" on them.

The statement wasn't that big a deal but the campaign had already jumped on it and were up on the web in warp speed. My daughter had a link on her blog before 1:30 am.

Oh. and another thing. I heard someone this morning say that Obama wasn't particularly inspirational. It's tough to be inspirational when you're guarding against a hard shot to the twins.

Obama was trying to run out the clock while looking interesting. McCain wanted to sink half court shots but couldn't even get to the half court line.

Yes...I would agree that this certainly did not give any voter much 'new' information. BUT, McCain's health care plan sounded even a bit scarier, and his 'new idea' about buying up all of the bad mortgages had his own party cringing, I'm sure...

Hopefully the 3rd and final debate will truly focus on the many other domestic issues that are very important, and will further show some interesting differences in the candidates. EDUCATION is an issue I want to see discussed. With new energy intiatives, we are going to need a well-educated student body in the areas of math and science. Currently we are having to import these types of workers due to the fact that we aren't producing enough of them via our own education system...

Although, according to McCain, the "American worker is the smartest, most productive," but unfortunately, the global job markets in the areas of math/science would disagree...

gaga,
you should have watched the Florida Atlantic Owls vs. the Trojans of Troy in a riveting Sun Belt Conference, Bowl Championship Division Football contest. (not to be confused with the Belmont Bruins who are 3 time defending champions of the Atlantic Sun Conference in men's b ball).

Was it just me or did it seem as though J McCain’s Metamucil hadn’t kicked in before the debate?

Last night's debate was a snorefest. Surely Tom Brokaw could have picked more interesting questions. The candidates regurgitated the same answers that they gave in the last debate. McCain was particularly irritating when he repeatedly used the phrase "my friend". In my experience, a condescending "my friend" is usually followed by a quick kick to the groin or a nasty comment about your girlfriend, or both. McCain's answers were erratic at times. He could not deliver crisply worded responses that would highlight Obama's weaknesses. The McCain campaign ended last night, not with a bang, but with a wimper. Good luck to Mr Obama and his supporters, the country and the world will be watching.

The audience looked like the wax museum. If they were better looking, I'd call them the Stepford Wives of town hall. Wow... what controls. This is a democray? Well--Obama kicked fanny (which I don't think he did in the first one.) I agree with DB, though...simply infomercials. I wish I had evereyone's confidence that Obama's going to win, but... I think McCain will. People lie in polls and I think some people are looking to a "father figure" in these scary times. May be wrong. Just my sense of the not rich segment of republicans. Hope debate 3 gets a bit more real.

Hank,

you coupled Palin with Joseph Stalin.

Tell me you were trying to make a joke. jb

jb, as I had explained on an earlier thread, the behavior is similar of kind but not degree. She has a history of firing officials who disagree with her. She does not broach even minor disent. Her persona is of an authoritarian nature. She ended up forcing her mentors out of office, calling them old boys. She is a lone wolf. Read the article by Jonathan Raban or the profile in the New Yorker. Have you seen how she works a rally? Personal attacks and red meat.

Neither McCain or Obama have a clue about healthcare or overhauling Medicare which needs to be done. People react as they do not see the writing on the wall.We ALL pay too much in taxes, and entitlement programs with bad outcomes need to go away. I hope one or the other starts showing some characterisitics of the Hiram mascot the terrier, I believe and root out the rat. It's doubtful that will happen. Stupid people will still exist, because we need them in our capitalistic society.Rich people will always exist; because you can't work for somebody that is broke.Morality will never be legislated.I ask all of you leaners to the left. What do you do with a healthy 34 year old male with no real job but has been treated for gonnorhea 6 times in 18 months.Never has he paid a dime on his bill. Yet we still patch him up tell him to use protection non compliant of course. Oh by the way braggs that he has 6 kids. What are the answers?? Trying to care for people without making judgements is tuff and takes a toll.Like I said, neither candidate has clue about healthcare.

Anonymous said...

Hank,

you could have used any leader but you chose Stalin.

I just feel that is unreasonable.

Anonymous said...

jb, we disagree. I don't find mostleaders to be so draconian. She has only a short history in power. She doesn't understand that you see the same faces going up that you do when you are going down. Granted, in this election she is the bad cop and she and McCain have at least 10 yards to make up on their 3rd attempt.

Hopefully, we won't have to put her to the test.

Anonymous said...

Disagree? Yes Habkster we disagree. You thought a US polotician was the equal of Joesph Stalin.

Folks, your sports metaphors bespeak a nation in decline.

If Joe Sportsfan spent a few moments with the editorial pages (or a history book), during his lifetime of watching uniformed, eight-figure-earning borderline mongoloids move various spheres around courts and fields, perhaps he’d realize the utter lack of choice this so-called election presents.

Pro sports = SOMA for a mouth-breathing electorate.

No jb, I didn't just think she is like Uncle Joe, I still do. Do you think he could have sent people to summary execution or banished to a Gulag in this country? But our current president has blurred the line on torture and suspended some of your civil your rights. And you think I am unresaonable for being wary of her being a potential VP/President?

My prediction is that Sarah Palin will have her own show on FOX after the election.

Maybe she will replace Nancy Grace.

Doesn't Sarah Palin already have a day job -- Bein' a maverick governor up der in Alaska with all the hockey moms and Joe Sixpacks? If McCain loses I don't think she's going to be real happy up in the tundra bein' a grandma. She's still got a couple of years left on her term.

If McCain goes down to defeat, I expect to see Sarah pop up on WWE Raw.

will it fit your needs or not. The product commonly satisfies
the requirements of all of the individuals
but differences are always there. So, you must ensure that you are not
the one which are unable to utilize this product. Another thing is regarding
the medication dosage. You need to question your
medical professional concerning consumption and be certain about it
authentic Forskolin.
WOW.Nice read here. The true factor to exactly
how this supplement works is it is really a dual action diet
product, and therefore functions as being an appetite reducing aid plus a "fat burner".
This really suggests that it oxidizes your fat units with the use of anti-oxidants, and that ends up with even more power
for yourself - but only when know how taking authentic Forskolin in the suitable manner. Many diet solutions
available today were created all over reving up your metabolic process, which can be simply not safe for many individuals - and that is why many
people are deciding to order Forskolin extract instead.
